St. Marys

From an agricultural beginning the economy spread to wood and mining.  Carbon manufacturing came next and by the middle of the last century a new technology, Powdered Metal, emerged.  Today over ninety diversified industrial firms exist from machine shops to subsidiaries of major international corporations.  Over 44% of our population is employed in manufacturing.   Elk County Regional Medical Center, employing over 900 people, offers state of the art health care without leaving home.   79% of St. Marys residents own their own homes.  Affordable housing is readily available.  Attractions like Memorial Park and Benzinger Park with a swimming pool, playland, ball fields, summer park programs, walking and biking trails, and many other outdoor recreational activities attract thousands of participants.   St. Marys Area School District and St. Marys Catholic School System are two active and progressive options.  The Community Education Council provides many post secondary educational opportunities. This growing city has a strong economic base with four industrial parks and tax free status through 2011 for new, expanding or relocating businesses.  The St. Marys Chamber of Commerce and the St. Marys Daily Press are two resources for relocating individuals, businesses and families.

Kersey

Kersey is located in Fox Township and is a quiet, friendly village.  The St. Marys School District serves Kersey along with a Catholic grade school.  Senior citizens are enjoying a new facility along with a sportsman club, bowling lanes, the Elk County Fair Grounds and one of the lowest township taxes in the area!  The Angela Huey Memorial Park is a venue for recreation and community socials and other local events.

Emporium

Beautiful Emporium is nestled in the foothills and is noted for its scenic beauty.  It is located in Cameron County and hosts county seat. This cozy town offers a variety of churches, restaurants, beauty salons, library, small businesses and job opportunities.  The Cameron County School District serves the area and health needs are provided by several enterprises including the Cameron County Health

Benezette

The quiet village of Benezette is home to one of the most popular attractions in Elk County: the largest herd of wild, free roaming elk, over 500 in size.  The best time to see the elk is in the early morning or late in the afternoon close to dark.  Benezette offers the Eastern Continental Divide, the elk herd, bike and mountain trails, an elk viewing ride, serene country living with mesmerizing scenic views.  The elk herd is very special and unique to Elk County and mixed with the landscapes of Benezette, makes for a great place to live.

Allegheny National Forest

Over 513,000 acres and the only National Forest in Pennsylvania.  Congress mandates that National Forests be managed to provide multiple benefits in a sustainable way so future generations will enjoy these lands too.

Ridgway

Ridgway is in the heart of Elk County and hosts a charming small town atmosphere. From a revitalized Main Street to ongoing cultural events, there is an active group of citizens keeping Ridgway alive and well.  It is best known for its past and present lumber industry and unique dining and living experiences. The Ridgway Area School District as well as St. Leo's Catholic grade school offers some choices in education.   Charming specialty shops, the Allegheny National Forest, the Clarion River, the Independence Day Festival, Fireman's Carnival and their very own Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous attract thousands of tourists and guests year-round. All of these events offer opportunities for great outdoor fun and recreation that caters to people of all ages. Johnsonburg

Johnsonburg is known as "The Paper City" for its history of paper production.  The "Mill" began as a local enterprise but has changed hands three times in the past 15 years.  Now a state of the art paper making facility it was Willamette who changed the face of Johnsonburg by investing millions of dollars in improvements to the mill and to the community.  Since then Weyerhauser, and now Domtar is responsibly for the variety of job opportunities that the plant provides. The Johnsonburg School District is a vibrant choice.   There are a variety of churches and banks, grocery store and furniture store plus the Johnsonburg Health Center. Outdoor recreation is located on State Game Lands and Bendigo State Park as well as the East Branch Lake just 8 miles away.   Johnsonburg is a small town with a friendly atmosphere.

Wilcox

Wilcox is hidden in the Allegheny Mountains and is a quaint town with lots of hospitality. Wilcox is in the St. Marys metro area and is served by the Johnsonburg Area School District, The Winery at Wilcox, Elk State Park, East Branch Lake, Bendigo State Park, fishing, hunting, boating and is a gateway to the Allegheny National Forest. Wilcox offers a quality of life that combines modern conveniences with traditional values.
